rp8400 cpu pricing/configuration

Is there a tool that i can use to plug in info to get pricing and/or to configure systems? I am specifically interested in rp8400. Need pricing for additional cpus, need to know what the part number and config description is for the cpu, and need to know if/how much memory comes with each cpu.
Thanks.

Re: rp8400 cpu pricing/configuration

Hi Dorothy,

You can also use HP's PartSurfer site:

http://www.partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/main

Re: rp8400 cpu pricing/configuration

Hi Doris,
Go to this link:http://h20141.www2.hp.com/hpparts/partsdirectory/buy.htm then choose your region, then in search by hp part number put rp8400.

Also you can take information from partsurfer:http://www.partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/main?sel_flg=modsrch&template=main&cpric=&prodsrch=RP8400, then choose your hp model number, then select a parts list by keyword : processor.

Re: rp8400 cpu pricing/configuration

As far the configuration of systems is concerned , there is a HP Enterprise Configurator available at
http://h30099.www3.hp.com/configurator

I guess this site only provides configuration options for non-EOL servers only. The HP 9000 rp8400 Server reached end of life on Feb 1, 2005. Hence it won't appear at this site. HP suggest to consider rp8420-32 as a replacement product for it.

If you want to go with rp8400 , check the supported options for it at
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&docname=c00289786

Based on the model you have , look for part numbers and price at http://partsurfer.hp.com

You can also get the parts price and availability at https://parts.hp.com
At this site you can info about nearest reseller and can order the parts as well.

Re: rp8400 cpu pricing/configuration

Thanks for all of the responses. I find that the PA-8700 A6443a cpu for the rp8400 is obsolete so we can't buy new and we must get refurbished.
I notice when using the configurator that the rp5xxx also uses PA-8700 but it's part number is different. Please confirm that I can not use that cpu on the rp8400.

Re: rp8400 cpu pricing/configuration

the two CPU types for the RP8400 are the A6443A 650MHz PA-8700 and the A6444A 750MHz PA-8700 and they sell for around 1k & 1.5k each in the used market.

Re: rp8400 cpu pricing/configuration

Can I add either mhz cpu to my current 4-cpu rp8400 (with 16gb RAM) *without* adding more memory to the new cpu board? Or is there a min. memory required on the board?

Re: rp8400 cpu pricing/configuration

As a confirmation: no, you cannot use rp54xx series CPUs in rp8400.

The part numbers are different because the CPU heatsink is shaped differently.
rp54xx series CPU heatsink is a huge "tower" which cannot possibly fit in a rp8400.
