rp8420 firmware question

Hi,

We have a rp8420 with 2 partitions

partition 0: cell 0
partition 1: cell 1,2,3

now we want to delete partition 0 and add cell 0/0 to partition 1, I am seeing that firmware levels are different,do we need to update firmware.

where can I find the firmware to leave cell 0 at the same level as the rest of the cells?

Re: rp8420 firmware question

First update all to the latest

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=2512350&prodNameId=392498&swEnvOID=54&swLang=13&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=pf-82060-1

(or better let HP do this), then delete/add the cell.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: rp8420 firmware question

Hi Torsten, the customer at the moment won't let us update the firmware in the hole RP, we have to get cell0 to the same firmware level os cells 1,2 and 3.

Would it be posible to copy cell1 firmware for example to cell0 with the DFW command in the MP ?

Flash Current
Number Cabinet Name Partition Handle Firmware Version Comments
------ --------- -------- --------- -------- ------------------ --------
1 0 PDHC 0A 0 256 A.003.030 Current
2 0 PDHC 0B 0 264 A.003.030 Old
3 0 SFW 0A 0 320 24.001 Pri PA
4 0 SFW 0B 0 328 3.096 Sec IA
5 0 PDHC 1A 1 257 A.003.031 Current
6 0 PDHC 1B 1 265 A.003.023 Old
7 0 SFW 1A 1 321 22.002 Pri PA
8 0 SFW 1B 1 329 24.004 Sec PA
9 0 PDHC 2A 1 258 A.003.031 Current
10 0 PDHC 2B 1 266 A.003.023 Old
11 0 SFW 2A 1 322 22.002 Pri PA
12 0 SFW 2B 1 330 24.004 Sec PA
13 0 PDHC 3A 1 259 A.003.031 Current
14 0 PDHC 3B 1 267 A.003.023 Old
15 0 SFW 3A 1 323 22.002 Pri PA
16 0 SFW 3B 1 331 24.004 Sec PA

it also looks complicated because, because cell0 should downgrade from 24.001 to 22.002 is this even posible?

Re: rp8420 firmware question

cell 1-3 have firmware 4.1; cell0 has 4.0;

so for the moment it should be good enough to bring cell0 to 4.1 too (SFW and PDHC);

then plan a maintenance window to go to 4.2 later.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: rp8420 firmware question

It is always a bit misleading, but the system uses the newer firmware bank:

Cell 0
PDHC : A.003.030
Pri SFW : 24.001 (PA) <<===
Sec SFW : 3.096 (IA)

Cell 1
PDHC : A.003.031
Pri SFW : 22.002 (PA)
Sec SFW : 24.004 (PA) <<===

So cell1-3 have newer firmware than cell0, no need to downgrade, but update.

Do this before changing the complex profile, because all cells need to have the same firmware within a single nPar.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: rp8420 firmware question

Torsten can it be done with the DFW command?,

if I can, can I leave cell0 in BIB and then copy the SFW and PDH from cell0 to cell1, with out having to stop cells1/2/3(partition1)?

Re: rp8420 firmware question

IMHO (!) you can do this.

Take care and don't mix up with source and destination!
