shutdown issue!

Hi i issued a shutdown -y -h on a HP server
It came up with following messages:

Can anybody tell me whats the issue.

Hi Amit ,

Which model this server is.

It seems problem with power source. May be SMPS.
"high voltage DC power SOURCE ID: FF"

What happens if you press A , does it shutsdown the server.

Check also in /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log for any error.

Hi,

It seems some power related issue. Can you acknowledge all these logs? Once acknowledged it should be running fine. But surely check your power sources.

It seems to be a rp54XX server. Is it?

Hi

Please check the alert logs from GSM.

Login on the console, and press Ctrl+B
Login to GSM with username and password

Within the GSM prompt press SL
and then E
This will show all the errors

This is sure an Power related issue, and please consult with your Local HP support enginneer to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

Seems to me that either someone pulled the power plug on the unit or one of the redundant power supplies has failed or is getting ready to fail.

A physical inspection of the unit is in order to look for fans that and power that lack the normal green lights.

I would go into GSP and clear the messages and boot the system and see if the message persists.

It appears to me someone removed the AC power cords from the power suppliy #0 and #2 during the system shutdown.

probably the only PS#1 was working and
it caused the power overloading.

-> I assume, the system turned off the DC
power due to the power overloading.

To investigate your problem, I would suggest you will boot the kernl up again and try the shutdown command to see if it reproduces your problem.

If you can reproduce your problem, it is better you will contact HP support center for more troubleshooting.

Going by what I see, you have an N Class server with three power supplies. You have lost power to two of the three supplies. Quite often there are two powercords going to one PDU (power strip) and the third powercord goes to another PDU. I would be that your 2 power cord PDU has no power. The N class will quite often run on only one power supply but needs at least two to boot. This is what you are seeing, the server realized that it will not be able to power up with it's current power supply issues.

Please take the front panel off the server and check the lights on the three power supplies, they should all have a green light shining on the front. Any that don't have a green light are either defective or do not have power fed to them.
