I am looking for steps to use ssh to the MP rather than telnet.

The first steps would be to read the man pages:
man ssh
man sshd

Hi,

on most of the current MPs the SSH is a licensed feature. You need to buy and enable it .

some MP's support it, some don't, check that latest firmware.
