start nis client subsystem fail

looking for some information on the above. we've re-booted our hpk9000/800 K360 with a fresh make_recovery tape. the start nis client subsystem fails. what exactly is this, is this something to worry about (we are installing a new o/s on this machine this week).

Re: start nis client subsystem fail

First of all is this machine suppose to be an NIS client or not ? If it is then this is something to worry about because it means NIS cannot be started on this machine. Check /etc/rc.config./namesvrs to make sure all your NIS configurations are correct. For example is the NIS domain name correct ? If this machine is not suppose to be in NIS then disable the line "NIS_CLIENT" in /etc/rc.config.d/namesvrs by setting it to "0".

Re: start nis client subsystem fail

Hi

U don't need to worry about this, If ur system is not under NIS. Follow this

#cd /etc/rc.config.d

Edit namesvrs, Change NIS_CLIENT parameter to zero. Then reboot the system.

Best of luck
