My system ( D380 ) is stalling at bootup with the following error:

Init C301
Monarch

The OS is v11.00, I tried booting up off the Diagnostics CD but get the same thing. Does anyone know what it means? What can I do at this point?

The codes around the C300 are the monarch cpu selftests. Bad news, looks like a bad cpu.

Torsten,
The system was originally a D270, the system was crashing and the system logs ( and console errors ) indicated it was OVERTEMP_CRIT. After opening it up and restarting I had see and hear the memory/CPU card, the fans were screehing and stopping and going. So I had a memory/CPU card from a D380 system and installed it onto the D270 motherboard ( wrong move ). It also came up the the same error code. So next I replaced the D270 motherboard with the D380 motherboard and the rest of the D380 guts ( only thing in the D270 staying were the harddrives and the case. And again the same error. Do you think it is bad or it just needs to be cleared of the old error ( points submitted for first answer, thanks! ).

Hi Randy,

the init c301 is not really an error message, but the overtemp message is really interesting.
The D-Class has no temperature sensor.
The overtemp error usually comes not during an overtemp condition but if one of the fans (front, rear or CPU) is bad. In this case you should see a FLT 31FF or 30FF chassis code. Unfortunately, the errors do not tell which fan is bad, only which CPU the fan error reported. You have to inspect the fans manually.
Possible bad fans:
-Front Fan
-Rear Fan
-CPU board Fan (you excluded this one)

And there is another, small "hidden" fan, the hotswap blower. It is just behind the hotswap bay. Include this one in your investigations ;-)
