test a memory

Hi All,

I receive memory errors in my rp8420 system intermittently,

Please suggect how can we test a memory module in HPUX.

What kind of errors?

There are 2 possible memory errors: single bit and double bit errors. In case of a (correctable) single bit error the system will decide to "reserve" this area of memory and won't use it any longer. You can run the diagnostics info tool (mstm/xstm) on memory and have a look into.

In case of a double bit error the system will reset immediately to prevent data corruption (TOC/HPMC).

You may use the Online diag utilites to test/exercise the memory.

Sorry, just copuldn't resist..

As others said, by using STM, you will be able to see the various types of memory errors. Single bit errors are common once in a while, however, if they are mounting up on the same module, I would suggest you get your hardware service provider to swap oyr the module as your are headed for problems.
