Integrating HP XP Application Performance Extender with Oracle 11g databases

• Many enterprise customers who use XP storage products find themselves in an environment where either several applications are run on a single XP storage array or the applications share hardware resources with another critical application on the XP storage array, such as an Oracle database. Application Performance Extender (APEX) is a Quality of Service (QoS) management enabler which provides prioritization of XP Storage Array resources for multiple applications.
• Multiple servers can be running several operating systems such as multiple versions of Windows and Linux as well as HP-UX 11iv3. For Windows and Linux servers, APEX can manage service level objectives (SLOs) at the server level. With the use of HP-UX 11iv3, not only can SLOs be managed at the server level but with APEX integration, prioritization can be done at individual application level so that multiple applications running on the same HP-UX 11iv3 server can meet their respective service level objectives.
• Another capability of APEX is it gives customers the ability to specify performance objectives in terms of response time and bandwidth. Customers can choose a maximum response time below which all I/O requests from servers and/or applications must be serviced. Alternatively, customers can specify a minimum bandwidth target for servers and/or applications and APEX works with the XP array to provide at least that minimum bandwidth to that particular server or application.
