Need an explanation of terms in the Power Sizer

The following descriptions are provided by the help sceen in our BladeSystem power sizer tool.

 

Circuit Sizing (Maximum) – This is the maximum power the enclosure could draw as configured.  It assumes a 35C room with all fans, blades and I/O devices running at maximum power consumption.  This is a theoretical worst case number that could not be achieved by any customer application as it requires the application to be able to drive CPU, memory and I/O to full utilization simultaneously.  This number is provided for facilities teams who have to provide worst case power consumption numbers to satisfy local power regulations.

 

Utilization Value – This is an approximation to allow an estimation of how much the system might use at a given % utilization in a datacenter running at 20 – 25C.  It is an estimate because actual power consumption will vary by application type as well as application load.  Plans for any growth must also be considered since this is based on the current configuration.

 

Idle – This is an estimate of how much power the system will use when booted, but not running any applications.  This will vary depending on what Operating System is loaded and what services the OS is running.
