Hi,
Is it possible to connect a DL380 server with 10G nic (SFP+) to a FLEX-10 Virtual Connect. I need one non-blade server but feel it a waste to purchase a 10G switch for only one server.
If I could connect this server to an extrnal SFP+ Virtual Connect interface, that would be great.
Thanks foryour time and possible answer.
P.S. This thread has been moved from Switches, Hubs, Modems (Legacy ITRC forum) to HP BladeSystem Virtual Connect.

Re: Connect External server (DL series) with 10G nic to FLEX-10 Virtual connect
I doubt it - my understanding is you can't use those as if they were simply switch ports.
Maybe try this in the server forum?

SolutionAFAIK, the virtual connect module only acts like a switch between:
* server to server ports (internal in blade enclosure)
* server to external(uplink) ports
It has been explicitly "downtuned" to prevent switching between the uplink ports (and thus it is not wise to connect a server to it).
Connecting the external physical server would give you this result:
* external physical server can connect to blade servers and vice versa
* external physical server cannot connect to rest of network (which is connected through a different VC uplink)
hope this helps,
Best regards,Peter

Re: Connect External server (DL series) with 10G nic to FLEX-10 Virtual connect
@Peter_debruyne thanks for your answer.
This is what I received today from HP support which confirms your answer.
Answer
Yes it is possible to connect a DL380 server with a 10G NIC to an external interface of a FLEX-10 virtual connect without the use of an extra 10G switch. However, This DL380 server will be able to communicate only with the blade servers within the enclosure but will not be able to communicate with any other device connected externally to the Flex-10 module.
