Some exciting news about our LinkedIn group

‎02-28-2013 02:57 PM - edited ‎02-28-2013 03:03 PM

If you’re a regular reader of this blog you probably know that there’s a Discover Performance newsletter you can subscribe to that has tons of useful information for enterprise software professionals. What you may not know is that our community extends beyond HP. We’re also on LinkedIn with a steadily growing group of IT leaders from around the globe and a number of different industries.

Recently we’ve decided to give our LinkedIn group a revamp. We’re updating the name to more clearly state what we’re focused on. So I’m excited to announce that our new name is IT Strategy & Performance. We’re also looking at making changes that will bring in more people to share strategies, best practices, insights and more. Our goal is give you the insights, tips, and perspective that you can use to become a rock star at your organization.

LinkedIn passed 200 million users this January and is growing at a rate of 40% a year. It’s not the biggest social network, but it’s certainly the premier networking platform for business professionals. For your own professional development it’s become important to be on LinkedIn (see this Forbes article if you don’t believe me, “Recruiters say avoid LinkedIn at your peril”).

Why join a LinkedIn group? It’s a good way to expand your network, exchange ideas, and generally keep up with your industry. Plus, if you participate regularly, you establish yourself as a thought leader. Your posts in a LinkedIn group help build your social capital and influence.

I hope you’ll join us in the IT Strategy & Performance group. And if you have any pointers on getting the most out of LinkedIn, please share in the comments.
