16TB Maximum Size of Volume on P2000 G3 Modular Smart Array = Decimal or Binary Terabytes?

  The documentation for the P2000 G3 Modular Smart Array (AP846A) states that the maximum supported volume size is "16TB". But it fails to clarify whether "16TB" means sixteen binary terabytes or sixteen decimal terabytes. The difference between the two would be 1,592,186,044,416 bytes - by no means a negligible amount!

Does anyone here know, in regard of the P2000 G3 Modular Smart Array, whether the "16TB" refers to sixteen decimal terabytes (i.e. 16,000,000,000,000 bytes) or sixteen binary terabytes (i.e. 17,592,186,044,416 bytes)? Thanks.

I've always heard memory always comes in binary but storage is marketed in terms of decimal.

You can use the SMU interface to check this.

Operating systems usually show volume size in base 2. Disk drives usually show size in base 10. Memory

(RAM and ROM) size is always shown in base 2. In SMU, the base for entry and display of storage-space

sizes can be set per user or per session. When entering storage-space sizes only, either base-2 or base-10

units can be specified.

In the Configuration View panel, right-click the system and select View > Overview. Under this

Configuration limits shows the maximum limits applicable to the system.
