Adding a 0C6D to and EVA

Hi
I am going to add an expansion rack (0C6D to an EVA .
My questions are :
I should remove the top terminator and connect the CANbus cab-to-cab cable and run this cable to the expansion rack and connect the top terminator now at the end of the EAB.

Can I do this online.

Re: Adding a 0C6D to and EVA

Assuming you have an EVA 8x00, what version of XCS are you running?

Theoretically, interrupting the CAB should not effect the EVA in anyway except that you will likely get multiple alarms on the EMU's etc... and several warnings in CV.

Should you do it live? Probably not, but there are those situations where shurring down an EVA is NOT an option.

For adding 6 shelves, i'd probably request the downtime since the shelves are likely to need an update from the controllers and it would always be better to have a downtime for it.

XCS version is 6200.
Shutdown is not an option.

Re: Adding a 0C6D to and EVA

Hi,
if the CAN bus extension is not installed from the beginning, then it is an offline operation (after the EVA switch off), because you need to replace the bottom terminator by the cabinet bus cable and connect it to the expansion rack (0C6D).

the pain is one part of the reality

At this time it is and eva8100 2C12D.
I want add the expansion rack with six drive enclosure.

Is and offline process to add the CANbus cab-to-cab cable?

yes because you need to disconnect the bus terminator, which cannot be done online, ...

Re: Adding a 0C6D to and EVA

As Clementi say the process can be done online, but only some questions.

1-I won't have bottom terminator , only top terminator in both racks?

The solution is 2C12D, now 2C16D, the 0C6D not full populated (I will take care about not insert disk in slots 13, 14).

2-Can I use the free port in the loop switches to each one of the new disk enclosures?

If answer yes
3-whitch loop switches port I should use the ports of the two in the bottom or the ports of the two in the top of the main rack?

Re: Adding a 0C6D to and EVA

hi,
it is not an online operation because you are removing the bus termination...

no drives in bays 12-14 in the enclosures 16, 17, 19, 20

Re: Adding a 0C6D to and EVA

Hi
After the installation I have received 6 boxes with the following part 345580-B21.
The description say that is Cable Kit, Expansion cab Drive Shelf.

I remember that in the first EVA's generation fiber cable were use as connection from the disk enclosure to the loop switches, after they were replace by copper cables.

Is still supported?
or
they are used only for the expansion disk enclosure? (fiber cable)

Re: Adding a 0C6D to and EVA

the rack connection:
it is fibre, not copper:
connected by one cabinet bus cable, bottom shelf identification expansion cable on each rack. (PN is 336881-B21)
