Brocade 8/24 and MSA 1000

Hi,

I am trying to connect HP-DL380(G6) to MSA 1000 using Brocade 8/24, using this i am unable to see storage via switch.

But when i directly connects MSA 1000 to Server (HP-DL 380) it works to access storage.

In Web interface of switch, the active ports displays

Port-Id = 0 F-port (DL-380)
Port-Id = 1 U
Port-Id = 2 F-port (DL-380)
Port-Id = 3 G-port (MSA 1000)

This is new switch.

Re: Brocade 8/24 and MSA 1000

Hey, so G-port on Port 3 means that switch sees something, but this something doesn't want to play.

What kind of i/o module do you have in the MSA1000?

Just two FC-ports per controller or a SAN switch?

Re: Brocade 8/24 and MSA 1000

Hi,

MSA have 8 FC ports. i am connecting to Brocade switch.

when i am verifying ports in Brocade web interface. Port 3 have no WWN.

Is there any other type of FC cable to connect to MSA 1000 and brocade?

Is MSA 1000 is just like a switch, and switch to switch connectivity uses different cable?

Re: Brocade 8/24 and MSA 1000

Hi, you are connecting a Brocade 2/8 Switch (that is the name of the embedded MSA1000 switch with 8 ports).

Do you have one switch in the back of each MSA1000 controller or just one behind one?

To connect them just use a normal fc-cable, no special cable required.

To connect the switches you need to merge them into a fabric.

To merge them into a fabric a lot of settings needs to be the same (fabric.ops, zoning).

Is this even supported together with a 8GB Brocade-switch? What FOS versions are you running on the two switches?
I checked the 6.4.0c release notes and it says that it requires 3.2.1c on the MSA1000 2/8 switch, do you have that on it?

What does it say if you do a "switchshow" on the port where the MSA is connected?
Does it say anything in the output of "errshow".

Re: Brocade 8/24 and MSA 1000

Hi,
Thanks for reply & help, connection to MSA-1000 is changed to Port-id=1 on 8/24.

1. There are 2 switches. (one in each controller) on MSA1000.

2. How can i switches into fabric ?

3.Current Firmware on 8/24 is 6.1.0c

4. The output on 8/24 is

swd77:admin> switchshow
switchName: swd77
switchType: 71.2
switchState: Online
switchMode: Native
switchRole: Principal
switchDomain: 2
switchId: fffc02
switchWwn: 10:00:00:05:1e:86:82:e7
zoning: OFF
switchBeacon: OFF

0 0 id N2 Online G-Port
1 1 id N4 Online F-Port 50:01:43:80:03:ae:b5:ec
2 2 id N8 No_Light
3 3 id N4 Online F-Port 50:01:43:80:03:ae:b6:38

5. How do i verify the version of firmware on MSA1000. I can access this from browser.

Thanks

Re: Brocade 8/24 and MSA 1000

Hey, you need to connect to the SAN-switch in the MSA1000 - so you need to put an ethernet cable into the SAN-switch. You cannot see it from within the MSA1000 config (ACU).

Then it's the same way as on the 8/24.

How about the errdump, what does that say?

Re: Brocade 8/24 and MSA 1000

Hey,do you have any more switches in the fabric? Does any of them have domain ID 1? If so, the conflict is between that and the MSA-switch that also have DID1.

Changing the DID you may be able to do via the webtools - or the CLI command is: configure.

To get the firmware version type this: firmwareshow.

We dont have any fabric, there are two MSA-1000 connected directly to Servers and two MSA-2000 directly connected to Servers.

My aim is to have fabric, with two switches 8/24 and connect all servers to these 8/24 instead of connecting directly to Storage.

Can you please also provide a link, containing information about DID and how it should be.

Right now i have only one 8/24 to connect all server. later on i will make two switches.
