Document ID: c02278109

Version: 1

ADVISORY: Removal of B-series v6.3.x downloads to avoid State Change Registration value not being preserved in Name Server database after Fabric OS v6.2.x upgrade

NOTICE: The information in this document, including products and software versions, is current as of the Release Date. This document is subject to change without notice.

Release Date: 2010-07-05

Last Updated: 2010-07-05

After performing a non-disruptive firmware upgrade from Fabric OS (FOS) v6.2.x to FOS v6.3.0, v6.3.0a, v6.3.0b, v6.3.0c or v6.3.1, the State Change Registration (SCR) value is not preserved in the Name Server database. After this occurs, the Name Server will not transmit Registered State Change Notifications (RSCN) to the devices on ports wherein a change has taken place that would normally lead to an RSCN. If a device does not receive an RSCN, it will not know when there is a change to the zoning configuration or device availability.

What is not mentioned on this advisory is there is another problem with the 8/40 switches where upgrading from any one of these versions of FOS can kill your switch completly causing you to have to swap the switch out. There is a timing bug that causes a problem with the flash. be warned if you are upgrading from one of these versions and contact your HP support first to make sure they have replacement switches ready.
