Brocade ISL Trunking

We have Brocade 8 GB SAN switch (v6.3) connected with MSA storage. We have a 4 GB (v5.3)San switch in Blade enclosure. we want to connect both ths switches in ISL and enable trunking. we are planning to connect 2 ISL from each 4 GB switch to 8 GB switch. These fabrics are in different firmware.. so how to enbale trunking ??? can i use F_Port based trunking ??

Re: Brocade ISL Trunking

Hi!

Let's see.

1. You should look in the release notes for the highest version of firmware you are running (6.3.what??). In there you will find compatibility with lower firmware versions.

2. Why run the blade san switches in 5.3.x? Is that the max for those? I'd recommend getting them to 6.2.x

3. 6.3.0 are not good to run. Get at least to 6.3.1.

4. You may need trunking license, so investigate that. CLI command licenseshow can tell you more.

5. There is no such thing as F_port trunking, or maybe there is but it does not allow you to connect more than one cable to the same SAN-switch. E_ports are the port type for connections to other switches. F_ports goes to N_ports (servers or storage).

Re: Brocade ISL Trunking

Blade San switch firmware is max 5.3 only. There is no 6 series firmware available. Its a Brocade 4/12 San switch for c-Class Balde system(AE370A).

Trunking license is available on both the switches.

Please read this below found from Broacade Fabric OS admin guide.

F_Port trunking configurations are only applicable to two separate Fabric OS switches where
all the ports on each switch reside in the same quad and are running at the same speed.

Re: Brocade ISL Trunking

Ah ok cool.

F_port trunking looks quite useable if you have a switch in access gateway or if you have a host that wants many connections.

For connecting switches in normal mode, you use E_port trunking.

Check out the commands portcfgshow and "configshow --pattern fabric.ops"
