CWDM mux requiered ?

It is possible to use CWDM-modules without MUX/DEMUX pair ?
We don't need to aggregate link, but need to connect two sites
over fiber on specific (1550nm) wave lenght.
The reason - on 1310nm attenuation is high but 1550nm modules is CWDM-type only.
(we use 8/8 SAN Switch + SmartOptics SFP).

Re: CWDM mux requiered ?

Interesting, I don't know much about the CWDM/DWDM so I'll follow the topic.

What is CWDM modules? SFPs for single mode / long wave length?

As for with the 8/8 and the smartoptics (is that a singlemode / long wave SFP?) you could direct connect two switches with only long wave SFPs and a long fibre. On HP SPOCK you can go to switches -> B-series Connectivity Stream and see compatible SFPs (also probably on Brocade's website).

Re: CWDM mux requiered ?

With CWDM technology it is possible to aggregate several optical ports (equiped with CWDM SFP modules) to one fiber - single mode usually. Each port works at particular wavelenght  (1270nm, 1290nm, 1310nm, 1330nm and so on). In this case multiplexer/demultiplexer required. Brocade certify CWDM transeivers for their switchies - Compatibility Matrix  - http://www.brocade.com/forms/getFile?p=documents/matrices/brocade-compatibility-matrix.pdf  It is lot of docs about CWDM, look at Wikipedia or google it.  Just one of many - "Passive WDM Networking" by Smartoptics http://smartoptics.biz/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Solution-Brochure-Passive-WDM-Networking.pdf
