Cisco switch question

Hello all! I've supported Brocade switches exclusively for most of my career and have now had some Cisco SAN switches dropped into my lap. I have a quick question. What is the difference between a device alias and a host in Fabric Manager? Am I correct in thinking that the device alias is merely a label field (the will appear as a description in a show run from the command line) or do they serve a purpose at all in zoning?

Re: Cisco switch question

Hi Raychi,

Host tab in fabric manager will show all the host WWN connected to the V-SAN, Device alias is the friendly name that can be give to the host WWN and FC-Alias is the actual alias for the host.

Re: Cisco switch question

One thing that I'm really confused about is all of the names for the same thing that Cisco uses. First, there's the enclosure name, device alias, and FC alias in fabric manager, then there's the port description in Device Manager. Is there any place that gives a concise description of what all of these names mean?
