Connecting Dual Channel FC1242SR HBA to MSA1000 San Switch 2/8

I have a new DL380G7 server with a single FC1242SR fibre channel HBA that I want to connect to an MSA1000. The MSA1000 has two controllers and two MSA SAN Switch 2/8 (switch1 & switch2).

The FC1242SR has two ports. I would like to connect both ports from the FC1242SR to the MSA1000 - one cable to Switch1 and the other to Switch 2. One FC connection would be active (primary) and the other connection would activate if the primary FC connection failed.

I have read a lot of documentation and it is not clear to me how this connection is accomplished.

QUESTION - Is this as simple as just plugging in one FC cable to Switch1 and the other FC cable to Switch2?

QUESTION - Is anything special needed - software, configuration settings, etc.

HI,

You can review the below link for MSA1000 SAN connectivity.

Re: Connecting Dual Channel FC1242SR HBA to MSA1000 San Switch 2/8

I have read the referenced material you suggested. I still don't know how to utilize the 2nd port on a single FC1242SR HBA. The documentation talks about using two HBA's and not a single one with two ports.

Not sure if I need SecurePath software for this two port HBA.

YES

It depends on operating system you use.
For example for Windows you need HP MPIO Full Featured DSM (Device Specific Module) for MSA (Active/Active) Disk Arrays

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=pl&prodTypeId=18964&prodSeriesId=421492&prodNameId=421495&swEnvOID=1005&swLang=13&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=co-68650-1

and

HP MPIO DSM (Device Specific Module) Manager for Full Featured DSMs

Re: Connecting Dual Channel FC1242SR HBA to MSA1000 San Switch 2/8

I have two servers connected to the MSA. Both are Windows servers but both are running Charon VAX, which makes the Windows server into an emulated VAX 4000 Model 108 running VMS 7.3 Operating System. The MSA1000 storage is only used under VMS and not by Windows.

Does that help to answer the question about if anything special (software, etc) is needed?

I have 2142SR HBAs connected to two MDS-9124 switches, I just configured the VSAN to include both HBAs.
