Connecting to console (Brocade 3800/3900) through USB

The PC industry is pretty much abandoning DB-9 serial ports these days, especially on laptops. Is there a Brocade or HP cable that would do the trick? (We have both Brocade and HP branded switches of this model. The console port is DB-9.) The Brocade cable described in the hardware reference for the 3900 only mentions a DB-9/DB-9 cable with an RJ-45 adapter that was included with the switch. Since we've purchased all of the equipment second-hand, we didn't get any console cables with them.

Re: Connecting to console (Brocade 3800/3900) through USB

I use a USB to serial adapter together with the provided brocade cable for connecting that way. The adapter included in the brocade cable delivers the needed pinout.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Cool. Was hoping it would be that simple. Do you happen to know a part number for the cable that comes with the switch? I haven't had any luck digging one up so far online... just the general description of it in the hardware reference.

Re: Connecting to console (Brocade 3800/3900) through USB

The DB9/RJ45 cable I have is labeled:
50-0000083-01
Foxconn K 0606

The DB9/RJ45 adapter is labeled:
50-0000890-01
Foxconn k 0617

Well, maybe the second line encodes the production date and week ;-)

Both components came in a plastic bag with another label, but - surprise - I don't have it any longer.
