DAS to SAN (DtS)

Hello,

Our client has c-series Blade enclosure attached to MDS storage. Now they need to move one of the blade to another enclosure which is attached to p9500 array. What are the options for storage migrattion? what is the best way to do so in your suggestion?

Hi,

easiest for this is to put the disk from both storage systems on the server and copy between them.

if there is no possibility of the server having disks from both storage systems at the same time you need to use an intermediary. For example:

  • another server - copy the data over to a second server, move the server, copy data from the second server
  • another storage - copy the data to a 3rd storage space which is accessible from both the old and the new location

Re: DAS to SAN (DtS)

Since your DAS (MDS600 ?) is direct connected to the blade via SAS switch, you cannot make it available to the other enclosure. Consider the steps mentioned by Johan or do simply backup and restore.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: DAS to SAN (DtS)

Thank you both! We hav proposed these solutions earlier. Client however wants a quick and less downtime solution. We are thinking of P2V now as we did not see CPU is utilized much.
