DFCM 10.x on dedicated server?

We need to install DCFM in order to manage our SAN switches after the planned upgrade towards 6.3.0b.

I was checking the releasenotes of DCFM and ran into the following statement:

"The HP DCFM Enterprise and Professional+ must be installed on a dedicated server that meets the minimum requirements specified in the DCFM User Manual"

We were planning to put in onto our management server which has already Vcenter2.5 and CV-EVA9.1 on it.

Any chance we will be running into troubles?

Re: DFCM 10.x on dedicated server?

Both, vCenter server and DCFM run web servers (DCFM does even run a FTP server, if I remember correctly) so there is a high chance for some collisions.

Re: DFCM 10.x on dedicated server?

The cu's SAN environment consists out of 4 SAN switches. So buying a dedicated server just for DCFM is pretty much overkill.

We don't need the integrated FTP since we won't use the FW repository. So ruling out FTP, what would conflict?

Hello,

Usually i just run the DCFM on a virtual machine.

That could be a solutions if possible.

I've run DCFM on a couple SAN management servers without issue. Just make sure you have enough memory!

Hope that helps.

Ivan,
you will have at least another conflict with port 80 being used by vCenter+DCFM, 443 if DCFM uses SSL, too and maybe more.

Re: DFCM 10.x on dedicated server?

OK,

I've setup a new dedicated virtual machine running Win2008R2x64 with DCFM.

I can access both our Fabrics.

I've added firmwares v6.2.2 and v6.3.0b to the firmware repository in DCFM.

FTP is running since I can "ftp x.x.x.x" with correct login/password.

In "Firmware management" in DCFM I can select both switches and the correct firmware and proceed. But after 30 seconds the FW update fails with screen in attachment

When I http directly to the switches and try the update through "switchadmin", same error. Always, IP address, hostname, password or FW path...

Any suggestions?

Re: DFCM 10.x on dedicated server?

Issue with the FTP not accessible was because of the Windows 2008 Firewall.

Currently running DCFM on a dedicated virtual server without any problems

Thx all
