Difference between BF146DA47A and BF146DA47C?

Hi,

We have an EVA4400 with a disk that needs replacing. All of our disks are model BF146DA47A. I have requested a new disk but HP keep sending me the wrong type. They keep sending BF146DA47C. They are both 146GB, 15k, fibre disks, but I don't want to mix disks or disk firmware in our EVA. The A model has firmware HP01 and The C model HP04.

Should I use the different model or just keep hassling HP to send the right disk?

Most of the time a newer (or other) revision of a disk model has the same hp product number (check this please), so from this point of view it is the same hp part.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

OK, so that part number is the part number that is on the box of the disks I have been sent. Does that mean that the 'A' model is no longer made? If it is the same, why the model number change and firmware change?

What about the fact that it's best practice to have all disk's and disk firmware versions the same in an EVA disk group?

See this again:

454410-001:
Disk drive 146GB, 15K, EVA M6412 Enclosure, Fibre channel

One part#, a disk with same size and speed.

You will find this scenario since many, many years. No problem so far.

Best practice should be to keep all the same disk models at the same FW revision.

Hope this helps!

Where did you get this from ? I've never seen this as a best practice.

It's very common to mix different disk models in an EVA. Don't confuse HP's model number with the drive manufacturer's number (the BF... number).

Cheers,

Using the same model number has never been 'best practice' and would be very hard, expensive and over time even impossible (what to do if that model number is no longer in stock??) to do. It is even possible that you receive different model numbers on the initial purchase.

Since V1 of the EVA I have seen quite a number of boxes with mixed model numbers and never seen a problem due to model mixing.
