EVA 3000 SAN Appliance GUI Issue after Loop Failure (Missing)
Hi Everyone,
I am using a HP EVA3000 SAN Storage.
We had experienced a strange issue after a new disk encounted a loop failure.
1) Observed one disk with Predictive Failure in Bay 10.
2) Proceed to ungroup disk to prepare for disk replacement.
3) Ungroup took a few hours. Eventually, ungrouped disk status LED turned red. Status seen
in SAN Appliance GUI shows disk as ungrouped.
4) Inserted spare disk into Bay 10.
5) Selected Group to group disk back into array.
6) After Grouping, GUI reported Loop A of disk in not operational.
7) GUI showed several contradictory infomation.
A) Enclosure ID and Bay ID was Unknown as seen in attachments
B) Disk Icon appears in 2 places, one outside of the disk enclosure and other stating disk drive in this bay in unidentifiable. However, the disk was shown as grouped.
Could I know what happened? Anyway to resolve it without ungrouping again? Is the disk the issue? Should I change the disk?
Thanks a lot!

Re: EVA 3000 SAN Appliance GUI Issue after Loop Failure (Missing)
First I would restart the CV service and check again. What CV version is running? Latest for EVA 3000 is 9.4.1.
I saw the alarm level at 100% - this is not good at all!
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: EVA 3000 SAN Appliance GUI Issue after Loop Failure (Missing)
hi
you could try doing a firmware upgrade to the disk with a problem
(even to the same version that it has) this will reset
the disk in the enclosure

Re: EVA 3000 SAN Appliance GUI Issue after Loop Failure (Missing)
Dear giladzzz,
Thanks for your reply. I was actually thinking of replacing the disk, as I do not want to take any chance of it going "missing loop" again. :)
Do you know how can I replace a disk when there is no ungroup or remove button shown. The disk shows green but when data is being accessed, there is the disk access light does not blink, can I replace it just like that? Since no remove option is given?
Thanks.

Re: EVA 3000 SAN Appliance GUI Issue after Loop Failure (Missing)
Hi Torsten,
Thanks for your reply. After I restarted the SAN Applicance, it showed the disk not in a grouped state. but still a popluated data disk. The disk does not flash any more during SAN operations, all the other disks were seen flashing. I was actually thinking of replacing the disk, as I do not want to take any chance of it going "missing loop" again. :)

I will find out how to check the CV version in the meantime. Thanks a lot for your email.

Re: EVA 3000 SAN Appliance GUI Issue after Loop Failure (Missing)
Hi
Sorry for the late reply, first of all doing a firmware upgrade to one disk is the same operation as pulling it out and then putting it back in.
also if you want you can just take out the disk by pulling it out if everything else looks OK from command view.
"missing loop" is something that happens and it's not always a disk problem.
