EVA 5000 has 4 FC host ports at 2 Gbps however in EVA quickspecs
"Sustained I/O and MB Throughput
Up to 141K IOPS and up to 700MB/s throughput per Controller Pair"
it means (700MBps/4 ports)*8 bits = 1400 Mbps = 1.4 Gbps... where are the rest???
In the same way EVA 8000 has 8 FC host ports at 4 Gbps however in EVA quickspecs
"Sustained I/O and MB Throughput
Greater than 200,000 IOPs and over 1500 MB/s throughput per controller pair with four FC loops switches"
it means (1500 MBps/8 ports)*8 bits = 1500 Mbps = 1.5 Gbps
is that correct???
Please I am confused, any help?

This is the "bandwidth" of the communications channel - or, the 'clock rate' of a single fibre channel frame.
It does not mean that you can send that much data into an EVA controller over a longer period or pull that much.

SolutionBut in most cases you will see much less throughput, because the disks are busy moving around or the server is doing other things.

Any mechanical hard disk will do less than 1 MB/s when doing random 4 KB I/Os.
Also the controllers impose a limit on the data processing, due to the need to calculate RAID 5 parity data and copy data on both controllers through mirror port (EVA3000 and 5000 have a lower limit than EVA4000/6000/8000)
