EVA 8000 controller replacement

We need to replace a HSV210 out, do we need to take the card out of it and install it in the new one? Also do we need to set up any zoning or will the remaining controller copy all that over to new controller.

I don't believe controllers fall under Customer Self Repair but if you don't have service it doesn't really matter. You should not have to make any zoning changes and yes, the new controller will get its config from the other one. I've never done this myslef but I seen HP do it and I believe they do put the card into the new controller. Perhaps someone more knowledgable can expand on this.

I agree with Torsten. My comment "it doesn't really matter" was poorly phrased. I had a non-production/test EVA in mind. If your data is important, I suggest you get HP involved.

Out of interest, what is saved on the card? is it just the XCS code?

Hi, swapping an HSV is really easy to do online or off. The card carries the firmware image and a few other bits but they are not really relavent to replacing the controller, just swap the card (and batteries). Correct procedure is to power up the replacement controller with the card installed Before connecting it to the EVA, then if it gets to "scanning for disks" without errors it likes the firmware and you can go ahead and cable it up, turn it on and job's done. (we've got 16 of em and I've done several controller swaps in the Dev lab).

AFAIR you must transfer the card, because there is none in the new controller.

You need to replace not only the card but alos the cache batteries and power supplies and even the OCP panel.
