EVA 8400: Adding new storage enclosures

We are getting a new EVA 8400 installed and the tech installing it was saying that everytime we add an enclosure, the entire 8400 would have to be POWERED DOWN and re-cabled/reconfigured.

Is this true?

Please provide me with as many details as possible. Im worried becuase we plan to have our VMware vSphere environment plus many physical DB servers on this EVA.

Re: EVA 8400: Adding new storage enclosures

It depends on how it is cabled from the factory. When we purchased our 8400 with 27 shelves it was wired for 18 shelves ( the 1/2 cabinet was not tethered to the controllers) and the 3rd loop ports were attached to 6 of the shelves. In this configuration, a down of the EVA would be required to re-cable the entire array (correct me if I am wrong).

If the DP3A/B are not used during the initial configuration, it could be possible to add shelves online.

This may have changed, we purchased one of the first 8400's on the market. It is a quick array but still has bugs to be worked out.
