EVA Snapshot to tape

We have a client with an EVA 4400. He wishes to take snapshots of his SAN data (which will include fileshares, SQL dbs and Exchange) and backup these snapshots to tape. I know Business Copy is used to take these snapshots, but how do I get these snapshots on tape ? Is any specify hardware and software needed other than the backup software we use (EMC Legato) Also, how would I go about restoring a portion of the data from the snapshot, i.e an SQL database ?

Re: EVA Snapshot to tape

Gian,

Here is what you need to do to backup:
1. Take the snapshot on EVA (SQL may need a pause to present a clean database files)
2. Mount the snapshot on a Legato backup server
3. Run Legato backup job on all the snapshot mount point

To restore; you have to follow the standard Legato restoration procedure directly on the host, may it be individual file or full backup restore.

Hope that helps.

Is this the same with Backup exec? I'm running version 12/12.5.

Re: EVA Snapshot to tape

Backing up like this is the same for any backup software because as far as the software is concerned that drive is local.

Many backup software vendors have VSS software or hardware agents to do this job.
