EVA disk addiing

Hi, I want to add the one new FC disk in the existiing EVA . What r the procedures?.
Shud I take downtime or will it effect the performance of the other servers.?
Pls let me know the detials.

Just insert the disk on an empty bay. Wait until it appears on Command View (under ungroupped disks). Then add it to an existing disk group.

No disruption to the hosts in any of the steps.

It takes what it takes - no need to worry, it is in the background with low priority.

Hi I have rcvd 600 GB HDD. But the diskgroup containig 300GB HDD. Can I add this 600 GB in this Group.

Hi,

Yes you can mix disk sizes within a disk group, however depending on what the sparing level is set to, this could reduce the amount of available space, rather than increase it.

With single sparing, 2 times the size of largest disk in the group is reserved. With double sparing, 4 times the size of the largest disk is reserved.

More details about the number of disks in the existing group, and its current occupancy would help...

thx, I have 300GB * 8 HDD now in the disk group.. Free space is 73 GB. I want 400 GB free space now.What is the best way?

Add more disks or delete some data ... ;-))

You can reduce the Spare setting to give you some space back, add more disk or delete data. Also, yes you can mix and match EVA disk sizes and speeds in a disk group, but it is not recommended. The Best Practice paper lays out the various issues that could arise.
