EVA4000 (HSV200) 1TB FATA disks and firmware upgrade

Hello,

We have an EVA4000 with two disks enclosures with two separate disk groups (FC group with 8 disks, and FATA group with 8 512GB FATA disks). We need to add 6X1TB FATA disks to the FATA group. The current command view version is 5.0 and the EVA firmware is 5.10. As required for 1TB FATA disks, we need to upgrade to 6.10 or later. Questions:
1- Regarding the Command view version, is the 8.0 version free of charge or we have to buy a license?
2- During the EVA upgrade, as per the procedure, we have to upgrade Command view first to 8.0.1 then upgrading EVA firmware: is the 8.0.1 version compatible with 5.10 firmware so we can move to the FW upgrade step after CV upgrade?
3- When capturing the EVA configuration and getting the text files, can we know which EVA licenses are installed using the text files?

Thanks.

Re: EVA4000 (HSV200) 1TB FATA disks and firmware upgrade

You're running very old versions.

Start by updating Command View to 6.02, since it's compatible with 5.100 and 6.100.

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software7/COL16255/co-43020-1/T3724-10009.iso

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software8/COL17042/co-46715-1/T3724-10502CVEVA_6_0_2.zip

Then update to 6.100. Then Command View to 9.1 (not 8.x, it's obsolete), then XCS to 6.220.

You'll need to request the licenses for your EVA in a new format, and request a CV general one if you don't have one already.

Re: EVA4000 (HSV200) 1TB FATA disks and firmware upgrade

Commandview needs a license for version 7.0 and later-.

Hope this helps!

Re: EVA4000 (HSV200) 1TB FATA disks and firmware upgrade

Since as shown in the interoperability support of Command View, xcs 6.1xx is supported on the free CV version 6.0.2 (no license required?), can we upgrade CV from 5.0 to 6.02 and xcs from 5.10 to 6.10 without needing to buy any additional license? In this case, we can install the 1TB FATA disks.

Thanks.

Re: EVA4000 (HSV200) 1TB FATA disks and firmware upgrade

Please, Command View EVA is *NOT* free !!!

Even if you can download it from an open FTP server it does not mean that you don't need to pay for it. (part of warranty or a maintenance/rights to upgrade contract).

> Commandview needs a license for version 7.0 and later-.

I am sure you know it, Torsten, but lets spell it loud and clear:

For previous versions you need a license, too, but the software does not enforce it via a key mechanism. It looks like HP found out they sold lots of disk drives but not enough CV-EVA licenses.

Re: EVA4000 (HSV200) 1TB FATA disks and firmware upgrade

Sorry for the mistakes...!

Do you think that I will use CV for development or manipulating something else? all what I need is to manage my eva for which we have paid tenths of K $s !

My problem is: we have bought six 1TB disks and an unlimited capacity upgrade with additional blade servers..., without considering the CV license. Now, we have received the products and we are suffering from a lack in disk space and we need to install what we have received and later we arrange this issue.

Thanks for your support.

Re: EVA4000 (HSV200) 1TB FATA disks and firmware upgrade

No, we did not intend to accuse you to do anything bad.

But it is not uncommon that systems are not licensed properly (like my response or not - I don't make the rules) - often that is unintentional because some silly detail has been overlooked/forgotten.

Re: EVA4000 (HSV200) 1TB FATA disks and firmware upgrade

Sometimes the (technical) problem is, you bought your EVA including all (paper based) Licenses some time ago (pre CV 7) and now you need a real key to get CV >=7 working. Contact HP support if you have problems.

If you have that key, consider to update CV to the latest (currently 9.1).

Hope this helps!

Re: EVA4000 (HSV200) 1TB FATA disks and firmware upgrade

More questions about the upgrade:

1- My Command View is 5.0: to go to 6.02, can i do an upgrade or we need to uninstall 5.0 then install 6.0.2?

2- Our current servers are all BL20p-G3 plugged in GbE2c switches, with dual-port 2Gb Qlogic HBAs each, connected to SAN via two internal 4Gb Brocade san switches (plugged on the back of GbE2c switches): Is there any compatibility matrix that shows the interoperability between these components and the EVA firmware revisions?

Thanks.
