EVA5000 2C12D UPGRADE TO 2C18D

Hi Team,
We got upgrade eva5000 2c12d to 2c18d, just wanted to confirm that we have to connect EAB cable for expansion rack from bottom (expansion rack) to bottom (master rack)cab cable? secondly we got enclosure id for enclosure 13 is 15 instead of 14,can anyone confirm why?

Re: EVA5000 2C12D UPGRADE TO 2C18D

Hi,

Yes - bottom of master cab to bottom of expansion cab.
Make sure you have the terminators at both ends of the EAB master/exp

Most important - the connection cable has "P1" at one end and "P2" at the other.
P1 end connects to the master cab
P2 end connects to the expansion cab

Re: EVA5000 2C12D UPGRADE TO 2C18D

Thanks Mark,

I did upgrade successfully :) all drives have been added in disk group and the leveling process is running. Mean while i want to the reason of expansion racks enclosure id's which start from 15 to 20 instead 14. can u plz clear this.

Secondly we are planning to upgrade EVA3000 with one enclosure (online).is there any glitch to plan upgrade online?

Re: EVA5000 2C12D UPGRADE TO 2C18D

Sharjeel,

NOT SUPPORTED disk bays in the expansion rack:

there is the disk placement limitation in the enclosures 14,15,17,18 which equals to the enclosure addresses 16, 17, 19, 20:
DO NOT install any drives in the bays 12-14 of these enclosures - use of these bays is not supported:
The reason is that some AL-PA of these bays conflict with the AL-PAs of the controllers and others conflict with the new 4GB back end loops switches

ONLINE ENCLOSURE addition is supported
yes it is supported:

Note:
should be done in off peak hours

steps:
...
1. install the disk enclosure to the rack but not connect the cables
2. insert/seat all the disk drives
3. connect AC power/wait for all disk drives to spin up

NOTE
the first drive in the drive enclosure could have orange drive failure icon lit. This is expected behaviour

4. verify that the EMU is showing 00 - this indicates, that the disk enclosure is not connecting to the EAB
5. verify that the power LEDs are steady on
6. verify that both A/B IO modules power LEDs are steady on and port 1, 2 are off
7. connect the new disk enclosure to I/O loop 1A

NOTE - AS LONG AS one I/O loop (1A or 1B) is operational, the storage system operation will not be interrupted. Therefore disconnect only one loop at a time.

8. verify all the LEDs
upper and lower port LEDs on I/O module A (steady on)
device port 1A on the controller steady on

NOTE
the orange drive failure icon on the first drive in the drive enclosure is turned off

9. verify the good status of the disk enclosure/disk drives via the Command view

10. connect the new disk enclosure to the I/O loop 1B

11. check all the status LEDs as whilst connecting to the I/O loop 1A

12. connect the newly added drive enclosure to the EAB

13. verify that the EMU displays a unique enclosure number

14. verify also the original enclosure continues to display its valid number

the pain is one part of the reality

Re: EVA5000 2C12D UPGRADE TO 2C18D

just make sure bay 12 to 14 are empty in each additional enclosure and follow proper sequence at loop switch side for connecting the I/O cables.

in the end add all added disk drives in the disk group.
