EVA6400 with XCS v10001000 - Cannot grow LUN

Hi Experts,

when growing the LUN on my EVA6400, getting the following error.

"The requested operation is not currently support by the installed firmware for luns >2TB in size."

My issue is similar to this post : http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/Storage-Area-Networks-SAN/EVA6400-Cannot-grow-LUN-greater-than-2TB/m-p/4492019/highlight/true#M40195

the version of XCS v10001000 which is latest...any idea what could be the reasons if we already have a fix in latest firmware?

your urgent response is highly appreciated!

thx.

thanks Torsten.

does that mean that problem still not fixed with current version XCS 11001100?

Re: EVA6400 with XCS v10001000 - Cannot grow LUN

The LUNs >2TB can be expanded from 10001000 onwards means 11001100 also will do this..

Thanks Ranjitha...

So if the new version XCS10001000 supports lun greater than 2TB

could it be some other reason or I am not following the right steps?

Should I bring my storage to latest firmware as pointed by torsten.. any specific guidelines that I need to follow while do so?

Re: EVA6400 with XCS v10001000 - Cannot grow LUN

Hi

It depends when the LUN was created and what XCS code you were running at the time.  A LUN of less than 2 TB created on XCS 095xxx00 can be grown to greater than 2 TB on XCS 10001000 or later.

I'd recommend upgrading your firmware to XCS11001100 for support reasons, there are a number of critical fixes.

I remembered this as well, but forgot where this was written, thanks.

It's not in any release note, user guide etc ... only in this matrix.

Hope this helps!

Re: EVA6400 with XCS v10001000 - Cannot grow LUN

Hi,

For support of luns greated than 2TB requires an EVA 4400/6400/8400 running a minimum XCS of 09500000.

Further in order to be able to create a lun greater than 2TB the disk group containing the target lun must be an Enhanced disk group.

This is a new feature of XCS 0950 which also supports vraid6, though vraid6 is not required to create luns greater then 2TB.

For EVA4400 running previous versions of XCS (0900) and upgraded to XCS 09500000 or later, the disk group will remain as a Basic disk group and conversion to Enhanced is not possible.

Data would have to be moved to a new 'Enhanced' disk group if luns larger than 2TB are required.

Luns created that are larger then 2TB may not be extended or shrunk.

Further luns greater than 2TB may not be replicated (local or remote) this means does not support any snapshots/snapclones/mirrorclones/etc or participate in Continuous Access.

Luns created less than 2TB may be extended but only up to 2TB, they cannot be extended beyond 2TB.

These restrictions are documented in the release notes for 0950000 through 09501400. They are still in effect as of 09530000.

As per the release notes of XCS 10000000, Large LUN support - Support for snapshot replication of LUNs greater than 2 TB. Expanding and shrinking of large LUNs is also supported.
