EVA8400. Increase Lun size

I need to increase an existing Lun from 300G allocated to serverX to 500G. How to do it? Do I need to bring the server down or reboot? I searched the forum and found no relevant information. THANKS in advance.

Re: EVA8400. Increase Lun size

It depends on the operating system and how it organizes the data on disk.

Some systems do not have an easy way to refresh the disk size. And some partition / volume management system do not support the growth of an existing disk at all.

It is Windows 2K3.

I am more concern with how the server will see the 500G Lun once the Lun is extended from 300G. I don't want the 300G logical volume/drive re-formatted since there are data residing.

Re: EVA8400. Increase Lun size

On Windows 2003 and with a basic disk in a primary partition it is easy:

- resize the virtual disk on the EVA
-- enter the new size and click [Save]

- go into the disk management
-- sometimes a 'refresh' is sufficient
-- sometimes a rescan is needed
-- in the end you should see unpartitioned space
-- at the end of the disk

- open a command Window
>diskpart
>list volume

> select volume
> extend
> exit

Not on Windows 2003. If you use Boot-from-SAN or a virtual machine, you need to attach the system disk to a different system has a data disk.
