EVAPerf data analysis - what do YOU do?

Hi all,

I've got some EVAPerf data generated from evaperf all. It's been run through the TLViz formatter (which seems pretty crappy to be honest).

I can graph some of the data but with the formatter not seeming to work so well some of the data is invalid or in the wrong format.

What's the best way to analyse EVAPerf data? I'm struggling to find a way to analyse the data quickly and to produce presentable reports/graphs without paying for HP to do it all internally using their 'private' tools.

Thanks,
Chris

Re: EVAPerf data analysis - what do YOU do?

We invested in HP Storage Essentials to get rid of the csv's, tlviz, .... to get data from the EVA.

In my opninion this is one of the weakest points of the EVA's... a simple and straightforward way to see how the EVA's behaving.

If you stick to traditional EVAperf data there's no way to do it "quick".

Anyone? Correct me if I'm wrong? Glad to hear about it to.

Re: EVAPerf data analysis - what do YOU do?

Someday I would really like to create graphs like Pall Sigurdsson did with the WMI counters and Cacti described here:

In the meantime I just run everperf manually when needed...

It requires a bit of custom configuration but I have evaperf logging to files which Cacti (on a different server) reads in. So I always have graphs of what's been going on up to the minute.

Hi Jeremy,

That sounds like what I'm going to try and do shortly.

Can you provide any info that'd help me in doing the same? :)

Thanks!

Re: EVAPerf data analysis - what do YOU do?

Our Architect came up with a very nice solution that works well for us.

Basically EVAPerf is triggered every 5 minutes and outputs to log files. The logs are then picked up and parsed into an SQL database. We then use SQL Reporting Services to create and display beautiful graphs over time of anything EVAPerf collects.

If you'd like to know how he did this I can put yoiu in touch with him.
