Expanding EVA6000

I need more space, Currently have a 2C4D setup
with the 4 disk enclosures full of 146GB disks. what do I need to add 2 or 4 more enclosures. I have HSV200 controllers will they work or will it require new controllers.

Hi uspfoms,

Check the following link -

-> HP StorageWorks EVA 4000, 6000, 8000 - HSV controllers, Identifying and Using

Hope this helps.

Re: Expanding EVA6000

Thanks, But what I am needing to know is can I simply add 2 or 4 more enclosures and populate them with new disks or will it require changes to the controllers?

Re: Expanding EVA6000

You won't need to change the controllers. You can have up to 8 disk shelves in an EVA6000 configuration.

The thing you will to add though will be backend fibre switches.

Re: Expanding EVA6000

What exactly is backend fiber switches?
It has 2 controllers 2 switches and a router for CA to work in the rack now.

When you say 2 switches... do you mean SAN Switches? Where the EVA Controllers and servers connect to?

Do your disk shelves connect to each other in a loop fashion? or are they connect to backend loop switches? (They sit right below or above the controllers)

Re: Expanding EVA6000

Yes there is two switches setting on top of
the controllers that the disk enclosures
connect to as well as the controllers.
Are these not capable of running 4 additional drive enclosures?

Re: Expanding EVA6000

No, they are perfectly acceptable to run the additional 4 shelves.

If you did not have those switches, it would have just been an added expense to take into consideration.

Some EVA6000 configurations do not include the switches, yours apparently did.

Re: Expanding EVA6000

Hm, as far as I know:
the existence of loop switches turns an EVA4000/4100 into an EVA6000/6100. And this is what (should) make the difference for CV-EVA.

Re: Expanding EVA6000

Hello,
please have on mind that you MUST order order correct disk shelfs. Difference between eva6000's a eva6100's enclosures is only in ONE (A or B) letter and if you connect newer one for eva6100 to your eva6000 it ends in whole array failure!
Experienced in January 2009 during our upgrade and HP error during order... :(
I do not want anybody here to see whole EVA blinking on RED with all your data... :(
After disconecting incorrect enclosures EVA went back to online (after several reboots)... no fun.
