FC connection transient error and failure

Dear All,
I would like to seek your advice. if we have FC port failed, what are the symptom that can be seen on the san switch port? will it reflected as error also? The FC connection that was failed is on the server. Would really appreciate can shed some lights.

Well on switch you wouldn't be able to see the details of that HBA. If it is brocade switch then do "switchshow", it will show you all devices which are currently connected and logged in properly with their port number on the switch. Look for this HBA port if it is there and status is like no sync, in-sync it means there is some prolem.

In caseof Cisco switch do "sh int br" and check the same. In Cisco you may run "sh logging log" and check if port went down, when and why.

And if you want to check on the server end then install the management software for HBA (Qlogic - SanSurfer, Emulex - HBAnywhere) and check.

many thanks for your reply. If there is hba port error, will it also reflected to error statistic in that particular san switch port?

Yes, when you do the "porterrshow" you will see the error counts for each port.

You may look at enc_out, link_fail and frame tx_rx parameters.
