HBA Speed difference - same HBA model, same switch

Hi all,

Appreciate if someone could assist with this strange one.

We've got a couple of Proliant DL boxes with two HP 81q HBA's installed in each. BIOS is disabled for the cards. The HBA's are plugged into two HP 8/20q switches - all is working fine.

For some reason two cards in one server both login to the switch and register at 8GB/s and the other two cards register at 4GB/s.

We can see no difference here excepting that the server models are different generation. The firmware on the servers is fully up to date.

Regards,

Simon

Re: HBA Speed difference - same HBA model, same switch

You have 4 cards in 1 server all connected to the same switch?

It could also be an issue at the switch side (firmware etc), why not fix the port speed at the switch?

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: HBA Speed difference - same HBA model, same switch

Thanks for the reply.

We have two 8/20q switches configured as two seperate fabrics. Each server has a one connection to each fabric.

I will look at setting the port speed maually although my inquisitive nature wants to know why this is happening...

As said, switch firmware is important too.

I have never seen them, but this is probably the right page:

Hope this helps!
