HP Continuous Access over IP Network

Hi,

we have got 2 HP EVA Arrays replicated by HP Continuous Access. Both storages are still in the same server room. Now, our requirement is to set them apart by 20 miles. Unfortunately there is no dark fiber connection line available. So our idea was to use FCIP.

We want to use the FCIP link only for the storage-2-storage replication, we have identical servers+infractructure on both sites. We would like to use 2 devices like the HP IP Distance Gateway for securing the WAN FCIP link.

What do you think about this scenario? 

Will there be need for a *dedicated* IP line?

The amount of bandwidth that is needed to keep your replication in sync is greatly dependent upon several factors...

1. Are you doing sync or async replication?

2. How much data are you replicating today?

3. Do you know the rate of change of the data?

4. What is the latency of the IP Link between sites?

5.  Is there ANY other cross site traffic on these links? Do you have extended VLAN's? or do they use different links?

This is certainly a viable solution, many customers are using the IP Distance gateways
