HP SVSP 2.0 installs successfully, but wont install LSI FC adapters

As the title says.

I have a win2k3 fresh install on a blade 460c with a qlogic HBA. I can install the SVSP software just fine, and it says it worked just fine.

However it comes up red in the system tray, I cannot start the service as it says NESS occurred.

It will not install the LSI FC adapter to replace the qlogic adapter ever. The qlogic cards work and all is well. I have tried a repair, a untinstall and reinstall to a new directory with new SVSP domain name, etc. Still not a change.

Hi

What kind of HBA you have installed? You need Qlogic dual port 4 Gb/s HBA (QLA2462
or QLE2462) or two 4 Gb/s Qlogic
HBAs (QLA2460 or QLE2460). The chip must be an QLA24xx.

Yep, the software uses a special QLogic device driver that acts as an initiator and a target.

Don't try to safe a few [insert your favourite currency unit here] by going the 'unsupported' route on such a critical component.

Can somebody describe the actual SAN vsp system? It's hard to find any actual statements in the fuzzy, oh gosh, analyst-ready, big picture marketing stuff.

Is this somewhat correct:

A pair of hardware router like items (DPM).

a (pair of) windows (*&^%$$#) systems which basically the operating system/CPU for the DPM

another windows pc is required - to run the user interface for the system.

Can anybody verify/correct the above basic description? Thanks.
Can you imagine if we used PCs to manage our enterprise systems? ... oops.

Yes, you are pretty much correct.
