Planning to upgrade SAN switch(AG756A) firmware from v6.1.0c to v6.4.1b.
My setup consist of ESX 3.5( Windows VM's), Integrity Server (HPUX 11.31), C7000, HP Blades (BL 460 & BL 860), HP DL server, EVA 4400 & MSL 4048.
HBA (403619-B21)drivers on most of the servers are either 2007 or 2009 but not latest.
I need your guidance in upgrading the SAN switch FW.Sequence of upgrade from v6.1.0c to v6.4.1b
Also I need to know if I have upgrade my host HBA drivers (2007 or 2009 )first or I can do it after I UPGRADE my SAN switch firmware to the latest.I have to make sure there will be no connectivity issues between host and switch while we are upgrading the firmware.
Any compatibilty sheet which describe minimum requirement related to OS & HBA.
Solved! Go to Solution.

Re: HP StorageWorks 4/32B SAN Switch firmware upgrade
As for the SAN switch Fabric OS upgrades you need to do this in steps.
The path would be:
1) upgrade to 6.2.2e
2) then to 6.3.2b
3) then to 6.4.1b
They are all relatively old so should be safe to use them even though they are the latest in each series.
I do not know where to find compatibility between OS/HBA.
HP SPOCK has lots of information, tried there? http://h20272.www2.hp.com/
Do you have only one SAN switch in your SAN?
I would start with upgrading the servers (drivers & firmwares).
Are you upgrading the EVA/MSL last?

I have written this that might help you a little:

Re: HP StorageWorks 4/32B SAN Switch firmware upgrade
Thanks for your reply.
I have 2No.'s SAN switch
This is what you suggest,
1) Upgrade the servers (drivers & firmware)
( Latet PSP & Firmware Maintenance CD)
2) upgrade the SAN switch
3) Upgrade MSL
Unfortunately in my case, we have alreay upgraded EVA 4400 firmware (09534000).
