The MSA30 I/O module's SCSI bus termination cannot be turned off.

Re: HP StorageWorks Modular Smart Array 30

i am sorry, my question can sound a little bit stupid, but i have no experience with hp hardware
the main doubt is: can use HP StorageWorks
Modular Smart Array 30 as a shared storage of a two node cluster, does it have cluster support?

Re: HP StorageWorks Modular Smart Array 30

No Cluster support (from what I can remember.)

The dual port i/o module simple splits the bus so that port0 see's the first 7 drives and the port1 see's the other 7 drives.

There is no bus sharing on the MSA30.

You would need to have at least a MSA500

Re: HP StorageWorks Modular Smart Array 30

Well, the MSA30 box does not contain a RAID controller or so. And it would depend on the disk drives if they properly support MSCS SCSI reservations.

For some AlphaServer/OpenVMS cluster configurations (which does not use any SCSI reservations as far as I can tell) it was possible to buy an external converter box that did translate the LVD (low-voltage differential) signals from the MSA30 into HVD (high-voltage differential) what the supported adapters did use. The box act as an Y-connector.

Re: HP StorageWorks Modular Smart Array 30

The MSA30 can have 1 of the following 3 I/O modules:

- single bus [SB](all disks on 1 bus)
- dual bus [DB](left half and right half each on 1 bus)
- multi initiator [MI] (same as DB, but 2 connectors for each bus, made for shared busses; but only supported with hp-ux)

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
