We have HP Storageworks P2000 G3 and it was connected with our two servers but suddenly one of our server is hanged and after restarted the server, we cannot see any SAN drives. we checked on server the FC HBA card lights are off and drivers are not showing in device manager. so can anyone please advice what could be the reason and how to resolve it.
Our 2nd server is working fine with SAN and HBA lights are ON luckly.
Thanks,
Agha

Solution"we checked on server the FC HBA card lights are off and drivers are not showing in device manager."
Sounds like it's related to the server so at least not the P2000/cable/SFP.
Try reseating the card and if possible put it in another PCI slot/server and see if it is seen there.
An FC HBA should give some messages during POST (for SAN boot), are those seen? Is it seen in BIOS at all? If it's still not found, likely the card is broken.

Re: HP Storageworks P2000 G3 is disconnected unexpectedly
Thanks,
I reinserted the card but same problem, HBA card lights are off and no driver seen in device manager so it means it is HBA card problem need to replace. do we need to change anything in SAN after replacing the HBA card?
Regards
Agha

Re: HP Storageworks P2000 G3 is disconnected unexpectedly
Hi, if you're using WWN zoning then you'd need to update the zoning configuration with thew new WWN of the HBA in the all fabrics (done on one of the switches in each fabric).

Re: HP Storageworks P2000 G3 is disconnected unexpectedly
We replaced new HBA card in server, now we are scared how to update in SAN console because it is still showing old serial number in hosts, there are Vdisks and Hosts available and these are mapped so can we rename existing host name or add new host while our Application is online and users are working. or do we need to do this in off hours. please advise what are the steps and safe points.
Thanks

Re: HP Storageworks P2000 G3 is disconnected unexpectedly
Hi,
these things depend on your setup and application.
To prevent accidental config problems in SMU I would add a new host and give it access to the same disk as for the old HBA.
You would have to make config changes in the SAN switch(es) too if you're using WWN zoning.

Re: HP Storageworks P2000 G3 is disconnected unexpectedly
Thanks a lot.
as your advise it is better to add new host map accordingly after that we can remove old HBA host right? do we need to change anything in Windows Cluster because storage drives are mapped in our two nodes servers.
Or After host mapping drives will be shown automatically when we rescan them on both nodes?
is there any chance of data lost?
Waiting for your valuable response.
Thanks.

Re: HP Storageworks P2000 G3 is disconnected unexpectedly
Hi,
Yes, you don't have to remove the old map/host until the new WWN is used.
I have never set up a windows cluster. The disks should become visible inside the OS looking the same as they did before the HBA was replaced.

OK, Thanks a lot for your prompt response.
I hope data will be safe while new host mapping.
Thanks,
