HP-UX 11.31 - Legacy special files of a LUN does not exists

Hi,

I've just added a LUN from a Symmetrix DMX to an HPUX 11iv3 host. I see the corresponding persistent DSF but I can't see the legacy DSF. The previously added disks, have the persistent and legacy DSFs.

rx3 # ioscan -m dsf

rx3 # ioscan -fnNkC disk

disk 27 64000/0xfa00/0x13 esdisk CLAIMED DEVICE EMC SYMMETRIX
/dev/disk/disk27 /dev/rdisk/disk27

Why disk27 does not appear en the "ioscan -m dsf" command output ?.

The scsimgr command show me that disk27 have two paths, like the other disks.

Thanks !
Marcelo.

Re: HP-UX 11.31 - Legacy special files of a LUN does not exists

Hi,

What does "ioscan -m hwpath" and a "ioscan -fnNkH" of each hwpath say?

Re: HP-UX 11.31 - Legacy special files of a LUN does not exists

Try running 'ioscan -fnNC disk' and 'insf' just in case. If it still doesn't show up, is it possible that LUN was presented to the server in the past?

Hi Michael,

I've attached the "ioscan" output.

Thanks !

Hi Kevin,

I did the "ioscan" and "insf" and the problem persist. That LUN was not presented in the past.

Thanks,
Marcelo.

Re: HP-UX 11.31 - Legacy special files of a LUN does not exists

Does a "normal" ioscan -fn list them?
Maybe they are disabled?

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: HP-UX 11.31 - Legacy special files of a LUN does not exists

Can you check syslog if it has messages like "inquiry page 83h/80h failed or the current page 83h/80h data do not match the previous known page 83h/80h data"?

Because if you previously had another disk presented at LUN 30 (0x1e) with a different WWID, then HP-UX 11.31 will want a "scsimgr replace_wwid" before allowing it to be accessed.

Re: HP-UX 11.31 - Legacy special files of a LUN does not exists

Sorry, forgot:
# scsimgr get_info -H64000/0xfa00/0x13
would be interesting...

Re: HP-UX 11.31 - Legacy special files of a LUN does not exists

Hi Torsten,

The normal "ioscan" shows the others disks correctly but did not show anything about the "disk27". When I execute "ioscan" with the "-N" option, "disk27" is listed. Without the "-N" I can't see it.

rx3 # insf -L -v
insf: Legacy mode is enabled

Marcelo.

Re: HP-UX 11.31 - Legacy special files of a LUN does not exists

Any reason you need to use legacy mode? Addressing the LUN as disk27 will gain the benefit of native multipathing, better performance, etc.
