HP VDS & VSS Hardware Providers in VMware Guest

Hi,

How can I get the hardware providers to work inside a Windows 2003 guest running on VMWare vSphere 4?

The following error appears in the event log:

[CHPEvaVssProvider::LocateLuns]:Exception occurred [0x80042306][Unable to find any HBA ports on local server]

(Obvious, since there are no HBAs installed in the guest)

I think that you need at least physical RDMs.

If the providers _really_ look for physical FC HBAs, you might have more luck with VMDirectPath, but the ice is becoming _quite_ thin, here.

I suspect it should work, and I'm just missing something small..

C: drive is a normal vmdk, E: drive is a physical RDM.

When I create a snapshot of the C: drive it completes successfully and uses the software provider. When I try to create a snapshot of the E: it logs the error.
