HPD6 & HPD7 HDDs firmware issue in HP P6000 Storage

I purchased a new spare hard disk drive to replace a faulty in my HP P6000 storage. During the process of adding it to the default disk group the command view EVA reports that there is incompatibility. I checked the firmware and realized that the new HDD is HPD7 while all the existing ones in the storage are HPD6 each. Is it because of the firmware version difference that that incompability issue came up ? I wish so ! I hope I didn't buy a wrong spare HDD or hardware ! I hope it is a firmware issue, not a hardware issue ! Instead of upgrading all the old HDD firmware from HPD6 to HPD7, for now I prefer to rather downgrade the only new HDD from HPD7 to HPD6. Would that be possible ? would it resolve the issue ? What are the links to those firmware downloads ? Please Advise Yaboto

What XCS code is running?

What is the model name of the disk?

Hope this helps!

"the command view EVA reports that there is incompatibility."

Where do you see that?

This error could be because the firmware on your disk was released after the XCS/CV you're running were released.

New HDD model: EG0600FBDBU and firmware: HPD7

Old HDD model: EG0600FBDBU and firmware: HPD6

CONTROLLER XCS: 10001000 build version: CR1F1Blesp-10001000

Thanks for your replies and help !

http://bizsupport2.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c03377265/c03377265.pdf

That's a link to the "disk drive firmware" document by HP.

It says that the recommended firmware for EG0600FBDBU is HPD7

Re: HPD6 & HPD7 HDDs firmware issue in HP P6000 Storage

Thanks. Please give me the links for downloading both HPD6 and HPD7 firmware.

Can my current CONTROLLER XCS: 10001000 build version: CR1F1Blesp-10001000 support HPD7 HDD firmware ?

For the moment I wish to downgrade rather the only one new HPD7 disk to HPD6. I would request for a downtime later to do the right thing later.

Re: HPD6 & HPD7 HDDs firmware issue in HP P6000 Storage

The document above say use HPD7 for XCS 10000000 or later.

What is the exact message you get and where did you get it?

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Firmwares:

For your XCS? Look in an older version of the "Disk Drive Firmware" document.

But again. It would be nice to have some kind of details as to what error you are talking about.

Re: HPD6 & HPD7 HDDs firmware issue in HP P6000 Storage

I have been able to downgrade the firmware revision of the new disk from HPD7 to HPD6 successfully. The new disk now has the same firmware revision as the old existing ones, but still I cannot GROUP ADD it. Whenever I want to group it, it says: Device unsopported, meaning it is probably a hardware compatibility issue.

NB: After observing all the disks, I realize that all the old existing ones have the indication EVA SAS, but the new one has only SAS indication.

Please Advise !

Are the disks physically different? Different cage/connectors? Perhaps the hp part numbers are different?
