HSV300-S (EVA4400 w/ embedded switch) switch configuration lost completely

Does anyone have a backup config for an HSV300-S?  We have accidentally completely wiped ours out, we don't need to recover data or anything but we do want this EVA to work again (it's in a test environment).  The management module can't communicate with the controller/switch combination anymore since we cleared it.  A default/factory configuration would be great, but really anything would help us.  Thanks!

Just do an unititialize and initialize the array again, so you have the factory defaults.

The switch is independend from the array (just share the same chassis), so you can reset the switch like any other brocade.

Hope this helps!

Re: HSV300-S (EVA4400 w/ embedded switch) switch configuration lost completely

So there isn't any basic configuration that needs to be on the switch in order for the controller to talk to the management module?  It seemed like the instant we wiped the configuration from the switch that the management module started having issues with the controller, but maybe i'm wrong.  It's showing this for FP1 and FP2 from the management module:

FP1 (Dedicated internally to Fibre Channel switch)More details Less details  Operational state: Good

Connection state: Connection failed

"Dedicated interally to fibre channel switch" seems like something that's important...

Re: HSV300-S (EVA4400 w/ embedded switch) switch configuration lost completely

There is no relation between management module and switch at all.

The switch is more or less a standard brocade, the 2 host ports of the EVA controller are hard wired to the switch - thats all.

Hope this helps!

That is great info!  So if HP sent a replacement HSV300-S, there would be no configuration on the brocade component whatsoever?

Re: HSV300-S (EVA4400 w/ embedded switch) switch configuration lost completely

Just like an out-of-the-box brocade switch.

Each EVA controller (HSV300-s) has a single internal FC connection to each switch, hence there are 2 FC connections per switch internally - all other switch connections are external only.

Hope this helps!

Re: HSV300-S (EVA4400 w/ embedded switch) switch configuration lost completely

I see... so presumably there must be something on the switches to tell the internal ports where and what to look for...or is this handled by the switches?   We kind of went nuclear on these switches, They still POST and everything, and i can pull up the switch administrator menu etc., but there is absolutely no configuration defined or in effect on the switches :(

Re: HSV300-S (EVA4400 w/ embedded switch) switch configuration lost completely

This is basically what we did to the switches:

switchdisable

cfgdisable

cfgclear

cfgsave

configdefault

switchenable

reboot

I'm fairly new to brocade fiber switch configurations, so i'm not 100% sure this is what should be done on these to wipe all former zoning configurations, etc. but it seems to have been destructive!

Solution

Re: HSV300-S (EVA4400 w/ embedded switch) switch configuration lost completely

I think i solved my issue, turns out that we acutally used a slightly different procedure to reset these switches which included the following line:

switchcfgpersistentdisable

The switches were simply not enabled.  I am told this is typical of brocade factory configurations, the customer would then enable the switch themselves when they're ready to.  No wonder they couldn't talk to anything!  After enabling them with switchenable, everything looks good, with the exception of a new error on both controllers, "No mirror cache"  I'll dive into that now.  Thanks for your help!
