How to Migrate LUNs from EVA to P9500 with Autolun having Labels in the volumes??

this is the trouble, We are trying to migrate LUNs from an EVA to an P9500, using external storage and Auto LUN. First we'll virtualize LUNs presenting them first to P9500 using external storage capability and then presenting the virtualized LUNs to the server via P9500. When that will be done, we'll create a second LUN in P9500 and use Auto LUN to copy that LUN to Internal P9500's LUN, that process automatically switch to the internal LUN when EVAs LUN will be copied. Everything is ok, but what will happened if i have LUNs formatted with LABELs in Red Hat 5 with device mapper multipath??, do i need any other considerations??, when the server starts, what will it look for about the labels??

Thaks in advance

LABELs are ideal for this migration scenario. UUID could cause some trouble or manual efforts. The label is on the filesystem and will be migrated using AutoLUN in that case like regular data. You should be fine.

The only thing you want to check first is the devicemapper configuration. Make sure a valid configuration for P9500 is added before server shutdown.

Re: How to Migrate LUNs from EVA to P9500 with Autolun having Labels in the volumes??

As you said, it went fine, just few considerations:

- disable LUNs in fstab to next boot dont have troubles

- delete blkid file to next boot automatically create a new one with new paths and associate its labels

- mount manually LUNs

- do all checks

it will be an extra step to reboot server to confirm everything went fine.

thks for your reply
