There's no way to manually fail a disk (like mdadm -f).
On both EVA and MSA1500 you can physically pull out the disk.
On the EVA you can also ungroup the disk from the disk group, but after that it's not failed, it's just unused and after the ungrouping has completed it's safe to remove it physically from the system.
