How to properly power down MSA1000

Guys,

Just wondering if there is a software based method to power off the MSA1000. The only way i know of to turn off the MSA1000 and all the hard drives is to push the power button on the MSA1000 encolsure.

There just has to be a better way. i have 3 hard drive enclosures completely full of hard drives. And this method just seems damaging...

Please advise

1. shut down your servers

2. power off the msa.

never had a problem with it in a past.

I know exactly how you feel. I never liked just shutting it down.

You can probably console in if you had a console cable and do a controller shutdown... but I have never done it before that way. Not even sure if there is a shutdown command.

Re: How to properly power down MSA1000

I have tried the CLI. Its does not have the shutdown command, like i thought it would. Everything you can do from the CLI, can be done through the ACU GUI. So why even bother with the crappy CLI..

Re: How to properly power down MSA1000

There is a LED on the OPC (second one from left or right, I think - can't check right now) which tells whether unflushed data is in the cache. I would wait until it has been flushed.
Yes, it is too bad that there is no way to do a clean shutdown :-( :-(

Re: How to properly power down MSA1000

Hi Drumgod,

Here is the procedure:

1. Shutdown your hosts or stop the I/Os
2. Shutdown the MSA1000 Controllers by press/holding the power button for 3 seconds
3. Shutdown all other attached disk enclosures.

While powering up follow the same procedure in revers order.

This is the recommended procedure and will not harm your data.
