How to turn on Flow Control on live SAN?

Hi, we have 4 nodes in production with a number of network raid 10 volumes. For whatever reason, flow control was not enabled during setup so we would like to do that now. We broke the bond on one node and enabled flow control then recreated the bond. That node now keeps dropping off the network occasionally!! I believe this is because the bond should be created outside of a management group. How should we enable flow control on these nodes and how can we prevent the nodes from going offline?

The nodes are on version 8.5 and the console is on version 9.

Thanks

How are the network ports configured on the switch you are connected to? Are they any specific settings?

The switch is a standard config. Flow Control is enabled on the appropriate ports and LLDP is enabled.

Switches are 3com 5500G-EI.

The ports on the switch are configured as Edge ports.
